Waste beryllium removed from Zakhid Plant now outside Ukraine, say Kyiv authorities

Waste beryllium from Kyiv-based Zakhid Plant has been completely removed from Ukraine, Head of the Main Department for Industrial, Scientific and Technical and Innovative Policy of Kyiv City State Administration Liudmyla Denysiuk has said.

"A total of 111 containers weighing 5 tonnes each were removed from the territory of the plant over four months. The territory of the plant is absolutely safe now," Denysiuk said during a visiting meeting on Thursday.

According to the official, UAH 14 million was allocated to this project from the city budget of Kyiv.

"Some UAH 14 million was paid to the firm that completely removed the hazardous beryllium from Ukraine," she said.
