The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), together with other components of Ukraine’s Defense Forces, carried out successful strikes on the Slavneft-YANOS oil refinery in Yaroslavl, Russia, located more than 700 kilometers from Ukraine’s state border, as well as on Russian FSB coast guard ships in temporarily occupied Kerch, the SBU said.
The Yaroslavl refinery is one of Russia’s five largest oil refining facilities, with a capacity of around 15 million tonnes of oil per year, producing gasoline, diesel fuel, jet kerosene and other strategically important petroleum products for Russia’s central regions and the Moscow metropolitan area, the SBU said on Telegram on Thursday.
"The Ukrainian drone attack caused at least six explosions on the facility’s territory, and fires broke out in four different parts of the plant," the SBU said.
According to preliminary information, four RVS-2000 crude oil storage tanks were damaged, causing an oil spill. "Two of the tanks are on fire. In addition, the key ELOU-1 and AVT-3 processing units were damaged and also caught fire," the statement said.
The SBU also said drone strikes on the port territory in Kerch, in the temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea, damaged two Project 10410 (Svetlyak-class) FSB coast guard patrol ships, the Balaklava and the Kerch.
"The SBU is consistently working to reduce Russia’s military-economic potential. Military facilities, fuel and energy sector enterprises and other legitimate targets that directly serve Russia’s aggression against Ukraine will continue to come under attack," the SBU said.
