Ukraine’s Hydrometeorological Center forecasts intense daytime heat of 35-38 degrees Celsius on Friday, Aug. 7, with 27-32 degrees in western regions, nighttime temperatures of 20-25 degrees, and rain, thunderstorms, and hail and squalls in places in western and northern regions.
"In western regions during the day, and in northern, Vinnytsia and Cherkasy regions, moderate to locally heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected, with hail and squalls of 15-20 meters per second in some areas. The rest of the country will see no precipitation. Winds will be southerly, shifting to northerly, at 5-10 meters per second," the Hydrometeorological Center said.
In Kyiv on Aug. 7, hot weather is expected, with nighttime temperatures of 23-25 degrees and intense daytime heat of 35 degrees. No precipitation is expected overnight, while daytime will bring brief rain, thunderstorms, hail and squalls of 15-20 meters per second. Winds will be southerly, shifting to northerly, at 5-10 meters per second.
According to the Borys Sreznevsky Central Geophysical Observatory, the highest daytime temperature recorded in Kyiv on Aug. 7 was 38.0 degrees in 2010, and the lowest nighttime temperature was 8.7 degrees in 1923.
On Saturday, Aug. 8, moderate to locally heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected, with hail and squalls of 15-20 meters per second in some areas during the day. No precipitation is expected overnight in southern and eastern regions or during the day in western regions. Winds will be northerly at 5-10 meters per second.
Nighttime temperatures will be 20-25 degrees, with 15-20 degrees in western, northern and Vinnytsia regions. Daytime temperatures will be 24-29 degrees, with intense heat of 35-37 degrees in southern, eastern and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
In Kyiv on Aug. 8, rain is expected overnight everywhere, with brief rain and thunderstorms in places during the day. Winds will be northerly at 5-10 meters per second. Nighttime temperatures will be 18-20 degrees, daytime temperatures 26-28 degrees.
