Vice Premier and Infrastructure Minister of Ukraine Borys Kolesnikov has said that the Ukrainian railway sector requires serious changes.
He was speaking about the problems of railway transport at a briefing, following a visit to the InnoTrans-2012 exhibition, which opened in Berlin on September 18, 2012.
"Ukraine has the lowest prices in the world [for train tickets], and it cannot be cheaper," Kolesnikov said, adding that very low labor productivity is seen.
He said that people do not work well with such low indicators, as the problem is in the absence of mechanisms that allow this work to be done better and more efficiently.
He also said that the level of wages of railwaymen should be increased, and rolling stock should be ungraded.
He said that Ukrainian railways require 100-120 long-haul trains and 300-350 electric trains.
