The daughter of former Ukrainian Premier Yulia Tymoshenko, Yevhenia, has expressed hope that Russian President Vladimir Putin will help to release her mother, who was sentenced to seven years in prison for signing gas contracts with Russia.
Yevhenia Tymoshenko said this in an interview with the Der Standard newspaper, according to Inopressa online publication.
"My mother signed the memorandum [on gas supplies] to get rid of a political aspect of the annual talks and to make the gas trade transparent. Many people, including Putin, understood this. Putin supported her in public, and he is one of a few people that could settle this crisis and release the political prisoners. We hope that he will help," Tymoshenko said.
She added that she has not asked Putin for help yet.
The ex-premier's daughter also thanked Western politicians for seeing Tymoshenko as an equal partner and not changing their position regarding her case.
