Ukraine proposes to Russia mutual cancellation of vehicle recycling tax

The mutual cancellation of a vehicle recycling tax between Ukraine and Russia could have been the best option for the two sides, according to First Vice Premier Valeriy Khoroshkovsky.

"There should not be a vehicle recycling tax between our countries – this is the best option for our countries, and we'll try to present it to our partners," he told reporters on the sidelines of the 9th Yalta Annual Meeting.

"We're in talks," he added in response to a question on the reaction of Russia to this initiative by Kyiv.

As reported, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on September 12, 2012 published a resolution on the introduction of a vehicle recycling tax on Russian buses and vehicles, the rates of which correspond to those introduced by Russia from September 1, 2012.

Under the tax, legal entities and individuals who import cars and car bodies originating from Russia are obliged to organize their scrapping and the disposal of waste independently or to conclude a contract with relevant companies at government-approved prices.
