European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso has stated that the EU so far does not see any reason to sign of the Association Agreement with Ukraine.
"We still don't see the necessary political conditions to take another step towards the signing of the [Association] Agreement. The current polarized atmosphere in the Ukrainian politics does not assist in the signing of the agreement," Barroso said during the 9th Yalta Annual Meeting entitled "Ukraine and the World: Addressing Tomorrow's Challenges Together" on September 15.
Barroso said the EU wants to see the Ukrainian establishment take decisive steps towards "our common values."
"It's a pity that the rulings of the courts, whose standards aren't in line with international standards, did not allow [former Ukrainian Premier Yulia] Tymoshenko and [former Interior Minister of Ukraine Yuriy] Lutsenko to run for parliament. They should have faced a fair and just court," he said.
According to Barroso, October 28 will be a challenge for Ukraine.
