Zelenskyy meets Georgian PM: There are open issues, dialogue is important

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on the sidelines of the European Political Community summit in Yerevan.

"There are indeed open issues between our states. It is important that there be dialogue at all levels. Ukraine has always respected and continues to respect Georgia, its sovereignty and its people," Zelenskyy said on Telegram on Monday.

He said this interaction would continue further.

The Georgian government said the meeting took place at the initiative of the Ukrainian side and that the conversation concerned relations between the two countries.

As reported, on December 5, 2024, Zelenskyy signed a decree imposing sanctions against Bidzina Ivanishvili and 19 other individuals for ten years, saying the sanctions had been imposed against "part of the current authorities in Georgia who are surrendering Georgia to Putin." Kobakhidze was among them.

In 2024, the European Parliament did not recognize the results of Georgia’s parliamentary elections and called for new ones to be held under international supervision. In the resolution adopted, MEPs noted large-scale violations in the October 26, 2024 elections. They said the official results, which confirmed the victory of the ruling Georgian Dream party, "do not reflect the will of the Georgian people."
