Field tactical exercises organized by the Gelezinis Vilkas Infantry Brigade commenced on Monday in eastern Lithuania, the press service of the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense reported.

In addition to Lithuanian soldiers, the Gelezinis Vilkas 2026 exercises involve personnel from the German-led NATO Enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group, as well as units from Poland and the United Kingdom. The total number of participants exceeds 2,500 troops, supported by more than 300 units of military equipment and Lithuanian Air Force helicopters.

The maneuvers are taking place at the Gaiziunai training ground and in the vicinity of Kaunas, Kaisiadorys, Elektrenai, and Jonava. The ministry warned of intensive military equipment movement in the region through May 13.

According to the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense, the exercises aim to improve coordination between units and cooperation with local authorities, the fire and rescue service, police, the Lithuanian Riflemen’s Union, the Public Security Service, and NATO partners. Training in real terrain is intended to enhance operational understanding and defense readiness. Furthermore, soldiers will test recent developments from the Lithuanian defense industry, with a particular focus on unmanned aerial vehicles and modern anti-drone systems.
