Sybiha on joint anti-ballistic air defense system with Europe: Additional meetings should be expected
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha has announced additional meetings with partners on developing the idea proposed by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of creating a joint anti-ballistic air defense system with Europe.
"Our country has learned lessons as a result of the full-scale invasion. And we must become increasingly self-sufficient, especially in critical supplies. Air defense with anti-ballistic capabilities is precisely this type of weapon," the minister said while speaking to journalists on Friday.
According to him, Ukraine is already discussing this idea with partners, with President Zelenskyy personally speaking with leaders.
"There is a circle of European states that have the capabilities, through their companies or other forms of interaction with us, to be part of creating air defense on the European continent with anti-ballistic capabilities. Effective and strong. Ukraine is showing leadership here, I believe. We have achieved significant progress here," Sybiha added.
He stressed that it is critically important for Ukraine that progress continue, and for this it is necessary to have "proper interaction" with partners.
"Therefore, additional meetings on this track should probably be expected. And President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy will announce the achieved result at the appropriate time," Sybiha said.
Earlier in April this year, President Zelenskyy said Ukraine, together with European countries, should create an anti-ballistic air defense system within a year.
"We are talking with several states and working in this direction. We are talking to our companies and setting tasks, but we need to create our own anti-ballistic system within a year," he said in an interview with the national telethon.
