Russia Akhmat unit loses over 120 personnel in Sumy region – HUR
The Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported the results of a two-month special operation to neutralize mercenaries from the Russia National Guard’s Akhmat unit operating in the Sumy direction. The operation resulted in 41 killed and 87 wounded, with over 100 others listed as missing in action.
From February to April 2026, the HUR Shamanbat special unit, which includes warriors of free Ichkeria, carried out the operation alongside the 104th Territorial Defense Brigade "Horyn" and the HUR’s undercover operations unit. Intelligence on the enemy’s plans was provided by an agent—a former Akhmat serviceman—who established contact with the HUR in early 2025. The agent installed a listening device, delivered across the front line by an FPV drone, in the Akhmat meeting room, allowing HUR operatives to record the conversations of the entire command staff.
This high level of awareness regarding enemy plans enabled Ukrainian special forces to strike the Kadyrovites during movements and at concentration points. Over the two months, the Akhmat unit suffered its heaviest losses since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. Additionally, more than 160 units of armored and motor vehicles, over 25 UAVs, and various communication, electronic warfare, and engineering equipment were destroyed or damaged.
Abdul Hakim, commander of the Ichkerian volunteers in the Shamanbat unit, called on Chechens to avoid mobilization or signing contracts with the Russia army. He urged those already in the ranks to contact Ukrainian intelligence and surrender to save their lives. The HUR agent who defected from Akhmat also appealed to others to follow his example, noting that he was well-received in Ukraine. Individuals wishing to surrender safely are directed to use the "I Want to Live" project Telegram bot.
