Poroshenko: West must live with aggression awareness

Europe must be strong enough to restrain Russia's aggressive intentions, said the leader of the European Solidarity party, member of parliament of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, during the summit of the International Democratic Union in Zagreb, the politician reported on his Facebook page.

"Europe must act decisively and quickly. Support or investment in the defense industry, investment in the Armed Forces of Ukraine is something that should not cause doubts. Because Europe needs Ukraine and the Armed Forces as a key security factor. And this process of integration into the European security system must take place in parallel with the process of our country's accession to the EU," Poroshenko noted.

He recalled that Russia's attack on Crimea and Donbas in 2014 effectively destroyed the post-war international security system created on the basis of the UN Security Council. "International law no longer applies because one of the guarantor countries is an aggressor," the politician emphasized and thanked the head of the International Democratic Union, Stephen Harper, for the invitation to Zagreb.

Poroshenko emphasized that the main priority of his presidency was the security and development of the Armed Forces, which made it possible to avoid a full-scale war in 2014–2019. He called on the European Union, NATO and the civilized world to be strong, because "for Russia, only weakness is enough to attack."

"Unfortunately, you are not strong enough right now. But together with Ukraine, we will definitely become much stronger. Without a doubt. And this is no joke," the politician summed up.
