Law enforcement officers have served a Ukrainian Armed Forces serviceman with a suspicion notice for attempted murder of territorial recruitment and social support center (TRC) employees and police officers and for desertion, in which two people sustained bodily injuries, the Office of the Prosecutor General press service said.

"Under the procedural supervision of the Rivne Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Defense of the Western Region, a 48-year-old Armed Forces of Ukraine serviceman (holding the rank of private) who fired at TRC employees and a police officer has been served with a suspicion notice," the prosecutor’s office said on Telegram Friday.

According to the investigation, the man had gone absent without leave from his military unit back in October 2024. On April 29, 2026, at around 17:00 in a settlement in Dubno district, he rode up on a bicycle to a service vehicle in which TRC employees and a police officer were located. Taking an automatic weapon from a bag, he fired several bursts in the direction of the vehicle.

Two people sustained bodily injuries from glass fragments as a result of the shooting and were hospitalized. Two other people in the vehicle were uninjured. The service vehicle sustained mechanical damage.

After the attack, the man fled and was hiding in the basement of an abandoned dwelling. He was tracked down and detained. During a search, an automatic weapon, nearly 500 rounds of ammunition, a grenade and an object resembling a silencer were seized.

His actions were charged under part 2 of Article 15, points 1 and 8 of part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (completed attempted murder) and part 4 of Article 408 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (desertion).

Prosecutors filed a motion with the court to remand him in custody.
