Defense Ministry procuring 8,000 Octopus interceptors – Fedorov

Ukraine’s Defense Ministry is procuring 8,000 Octopus Shahed interceptors with automatic terminal guidance to strengthen air defense, Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has said.

"Twenty-nine Ukrainian companies that have received licenses, as well as the British government, have already joined production. Four manufacturers have signed state contracts for supplies. This approach makes it possible to scale the technology quickly and provide the Defense Forces with the necessary solutions," Fedorov said on Telegram.

He said this became possible thanks to a government decision that opened up the transfer of military technologies to Ukrainian manufacturers.

"Nothing like this existed before. The state has systematically opened military technologies for scaling through Ukraine’s defense industry while preserving ownership rights," the minister said.

He added that Octopus had already proven its effectiveness in combat conditions: it destroys targets day and night, operates under electronic warfare conditions, and is effective at low altitudes.

"The Defense Ministry ensures the full scaling cycle – from technology transfer to procurement and delivery to the troops. This makes it possible to rapidly increase production and meet the needs of the front. At the same time, this is the development of Ukraine’s defense industry and an example of effective public-private partnership, when combat technologies are quickly scaled into serial production," the minister said.
