War can be ended quickly if transatlantic, intra-European unity ensured – Poroshenko

Ukrainian MP and leader of the European Solidarity party Petro Poroshenko is convinced that the war with Russia can be ended quickly if unity within NATO and the EU is ensured, the political force said on its website on Thursday.

"Is there an opportunity to end the war quickly? I am sure there is. What do we need for this? Several prerequisites. First, we need transatlantic unity. We need unity with the United States and unity within NATO... Point number two is unity within the European Union. And point number three is democratic resilience inside Ukraine. We need a coalition of national unity," Poroshenko said on Facebook following his speech at the International Democrat Union summit in Zagreb.

He believes that transatlantic, European and internal Ukrainian unity is "a bad signal for Putin."

"Putin must receive an immediate demand. Not 20 or 28 points of a peace agreement – forget about that. We need one demand: a comprehensive, unconditional and immediate ceasefire," Poroshenko said.

The politician believes Europe needs Ukraine as a key security factor, and that support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine is an investment.

"Supporting or investing in the defense industry, investing in the Armed Forces of Ukraine is investing in European security. In the security of each of your countries," he said.

Poroshenko said the world has changed and "no one has security" now.

"Representatives of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, representatives of the defense industry have appeared in the ports of Dubai, Fujairah, Riyadh or even in Azerbaijan. And this is proof that only together, when we unite the defense industry, when we unite the armed forces, when we unite the unique experience of war... Is NATO ready for this type of war? My answer is 'No.' Does NATO have the weapons to fight Russia during this war? My answer is no. Therefore, in this situation, let us stay together, invest together, defend ourselves together and win. We must win this war against Russia. We are stronger, we are bigger. And I have not a single moment of doubt that victory will be ours," Poroshenko said.
