SBU Internal Security announces 81 suspicions for espionage, terrorism, and corruption

In 2026, the Main Directorate of Internal Security of the State Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) reported 81 individuals under suspicion, 20 of whom are SBU officials involved in illegal activities.

According to the SBU Telegram channel, those detained include Russia terrorist agents, "moles" spying for the enemy, as well as participants in fraudulent and illegal schemes. The Internal Security Directorate pays special attention to countering manifestations of corruption within the Service.

"Self-cleansing of the SBU and other units of the Defense Forces is one of my main priorities. The success of our brothers’ combat work at the front and the preservation of the security situation inside the state, and therefore the resilience of all of Ukraine, depend on this direction. We continue to uncompromisingly root out Russia agents, traitors, and corrupt officials from all structures of the Defense Forces in general and the Security Service in particular," noted acting head of the SBU Yevheniy Khmara.

According to SBU information, two deputy heads of regional SBU directorates were detained in March for extorting funds from the head of a monopoly company in the amber business.

Also, in February of this year in Kyiv, two Russia agents were caught "red-handed" after using a homemade bomb to blow up a van parked near an SBU facility. According to the case materials, the terrorist attack was carried out by a UAF serviceman recruited by the enemy, who went AWOL in Sumy region, and his accomplice from the capital.

In addition, a scheme for the mass production and sale of fake IDs of Ukrainian law enforcement agencies, including the SBU, was liquidated in Kyiv region this year. A former UAF serviceman turned out to be the organizer of the deal. He involved 18 more accomplices in the scheme, who manufactured forgeries for sums ranging from $3,000 to $5,000.

Among other things, the Service’s internal security exposed three SBU employees engaged in illegal activities in Vinnytsia, Volyn, and Lviv regions.

Currently, all participants in the aforementioned offenses have been notified of suspicion according to the crimes committed; the perpetrators face up to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

Comprehensive measures were conducted under the procedural guidance of the Office of the General Prosecutor of Ukraine and regional prosecution units.
