Ukraine hits sanctioned tanker MARQUISE – General Staff
A unit of the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Wednesday, April 29, struck the sanctioned tanker MARQUISE using two kamikaze maritime autonomous guard vessels. At the time of the strike, the vessel was drifting approximately 210 km southeast of Tuapse, Russia, without an AIS signal, likely awaiting sea-loading from another vessel.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on Facebook that the strike targeted the stern, specifically the propeller-rudder group and the engine room. The Cameroon-flagged tanker MARQUISE is under sanctions from Ukraine, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Switzerland, New Zealand, and Canada, and has been used by Russia for the illegal transportation of petroleum products. The extent of the damage is currently being clarified.
