Man who opened fire in middle of street detained in Khmelnytsky

Law enforcement officers detained a man in Khmelnytsky who opened fire in the middle of a street, the patrol police press service said.

"Today on Instytutska Street during a patrol we noticed a man who suddenly began shooting from an object resembling a pneumatic pistol. The offender fired several shots and hit a parked civilian vehicle and a service vehicle passing by," the statement said.

Patrol officers stopped the vehicle and detained the man, applying handcuffs and special equipment.

An investigative task force arrived at the scene to establish all the circumstances.

Police noted that no one was injured in the incident.

Investigators entered information into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations under part 4 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (hooliganism committed using a weapon or other object adapted for inflicting bodily harm). The man was detained under Article 208 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of Ukraine.
