Interior minister: There must be one law on weapons for all of Ukraine, not substitute through by-laws
Consultations on a law governing civilian weapons, involving media representatives, experts, military personnel and members of parliament, will begin this week or next week, and there should be a single law on weapons for Ukraine, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said.
"The consultations will take place this week or next week," the minister told journalists on Monday.
He said that media representatives, experts writing on weapons issues, lawmakers and military personnel were involved in the consultations.
"We would like this to be a nationwide discussion. We first want to understand what stage we are at," the minister said.
"The law on civilian weapons must be one for Ukraine; it cannot be replaced by by-laws," Klymenko added.
The minister said this concerns the safety of citizens both during the war and afterward.
"I think we will be able to find common ground," he said.
