Head of Ukraine's Customs Service, Moldovan ambassador discuss introducing joint control on passenger buses
Head of the State Customs Service of Ukraine Orest Mandziy and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Moldova to Ukraine Victor Chirila agreed during a working meeting to continue efforts toward introducing joint customs control directly on buses during passenger transportation.
According to a statement posted by the State Customs Service on Telegram, the initiative to carry out joint control of goods and citizens’ belongings during scheduled bus services would significantly speed up border crossing procedures. This is especially relevant given that Chisinau Airport is currently the closest airport to Ukraine.
"The customs authorities of our countries are already implementing a number of projects to ensure the steady operation of checkpoints, organize joint control, and automate information exchange. Our meeting is another step toward accelerating our common customs future in the European Union," the publication said, citing Mandziy.
The sides also discussed the issue of de-shadowing international trade, continuing the exchange of preliminary customs information, and the future mutual recognition of authorized economic operators.
Following the discussion, the participants agreed to hold a future meeting of the heads of the customs administrations of Ukraine and Moldova to coordinate measures aimed at optimizing cross-border traffic, taking into account the modernization of checkpoint infrastructure, ensuring software compatibility, as well as the use of e-TIR procedures under the TIR Convention and common transit.
