Defence forces ready for any developments on border with Transnistria – Western OC
Ukraine’s defence forces are improving fortifications and medical facility capabilities on the border with the self-proclaimed "Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic" on Moldovan territory and are ready to resist, the Western Operational Command said on Telegram Monday.
"Ukraine’s defence forces are ready for any scenario on the border with Transnistria. Fortifications are being improved, medical facility capabilities are being expanded, transport infrastructure is being maintained in proper condition… Servicemen serving on the border with the unrecognized republic say that Russians will not be welcome here and will find themselves in a very difficult position if they attempt to cross the border," the Western OC said.
It was also noted that "the civilian population is also prepared to resist," without elaborating.
As reported, Moldovan President Maia Sandu visited Kyiv on April 26 and held talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko. Zelenskyy said they discussed security issues, cross-border cooperation, and their shared path toward European Union membership. He also stated his intention to "continue supporting Moldova on security matters, including those relating to the Transnistrian region."
The week before last, Moldova declared the commanders of the Russian military operational group illegally stationed in Transnistria persona non grata. On February 25, Moldovan President Maia Sandu stripped nine current or former officials from unrecognized Transnistria of citizenship, including former Transnistrian interior minister Ruslan Mova.
