Ukraine to show readiness to meet Hungary halfway, neighbors must live in peace – Zelenskyy
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he was ready to meet Peter Magyar, leader of the Tisza party that won Hungary's election, at any time and signaled readiness to take steps toward the Hungarian side.
"I very much hope that Hungary's position toward us will be constructive. We will also demonstrate steps to meet them halfway. We are neighbors, and we must definitely live in peace," Zelenskyy told journalists on Wednesday.
Asked whether a meeting with Hungary's new leadership was being planned, he replied that he was "ready at any moment."
"But I think the new prime minister-elect has domestic issues related to forming the government and issues with the European Union. We are ready in any case," Zelenskyy added.
As reported, Magyar is expected to be sworn in as prime minister on May 9 or 10, depending on when parliament convenes, after Tisza defeated Viktor Orban's Fidesz in Hungary's April 12 election.
On April 13, Magyar said he intended to hold a meeting with Zelenskyy and stressed that the new government would seek allied and friendly relations with neighboring states, including Ukraine.
