Fedorov: Ukraine scaling up cooperation with Spain in air defense, long-range munitions, drone production
Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov and Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles agreed on key areas of defense cooperation – strengthening air defense, supplying long-range artillery munitions, and scaling up production of Ukrainian drones.
"I held a meeting with Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles. We agreed on key areas of cooperation to strengthen defense capability and implement key security priorities," Fedorov said on Telegram on Wednesday.
He said he had expressed gratitude to Spain for its decision to allocate EUR 1 billion in aid in 2026.
"We discussed how to use this resource as effectively as possible in line with our needs. I also separately noted the aid package announced during the visit – VAMTAC armored vehicles and a batch of 155 mm shells," he said.
According to him, the meeting set the following cooperation priorities: strengthening air defense, supplying long-range artillery ammunition, and scaling up production of Ukrainian drones.
"Spain's contribution to the PURL mechanism and its support for supplies of missiles for Patriot systems are important – this is critical for protecting the sky and preserving infrastructure. We are working on integrating different types of missiles and increasing the effectiveness of their use," Fedorov said.
"A separate track is the development of air defense capabilities. We are working on modernizing systems that are no longer in production and deepening cooperation with Spain to expand their capabilities. We also discussed Spain's participation in a joint European project to create anti-ballistic solutions," the Ukrainian defense minister said.
