Appeals court allows Poroshenko to divide property with wife
Maryna Poroshenko, wife of Ukrainian MP and European Solidarity leader Petro Poroshenko, has won her appeal in the case on division of marital property, with Vinnytsia Court of Appeals granting the relevant complaint filed by her representative.
"The appeal complaint of the claimant's representative, attorney Kristina Viktorivna Mysenko, shall be granted. The ruling of Vinnytsia City Court of Vinnytsia region dated February 3, 2026, shall be canceled and a new ruling adopted. The claim shall be satisfied. The property belonging to the spouses under the right of joint shared ownership shall be divided," the court ruling reads, according to the text published by Opendatabot.
In particular, the court recognized Maryna Poroshenko's right to personal private ownership of property worth UAH 8.534 billion, including 8,190 shares in PJSC Prime Assets Capital with a book value of UAH 8.3 billion. Petro Poroshenko, in turn, was recognized as the owner of a number of assets with the same total value of UAH 8.534 billion, including vehicles, 46 paintings, UAH 3.19 billion in cash, as well as unpaid profit of Cikvent (Schweiz) AG (former name Rothschild Trust (Schweiz) AG) amounting to UAH 833 million.
The appeals court ruling has entered into force, although it may be appealed to the Supreme Court within 30 days of its announcement.
As reported, Maryna Poroshenko filed a lawsuit on March 27, 2025, seeking division of marital property. "Since this dispute is of a property nature with a claim value of UAH UAH 17.103 billion, which exceeds 250 times the subsistence minimum for able-bodied persons, this case shall be considered under the rules of general claim proceedings in a court hearing with notification (summons) of the parties," the court ruling of March 28 reads.
European Solidarity said the property division lawsuit was part of a joint defense tactic by the spouses against attempts to block the party leader's ability to finance aid to the Armed Forces of Ukraine and political activities. "Since Zelenskyy's sanctions decree prohibits Petro Poroshenko from carrying out any legal transactions, including even paying taxes, the only way to unblock financing of the Poroshenko Charitable Foundation is through a relevant court decision. Petro and Maryna Poroshenko informed the court that there is no dispute between them regarding the terms of the division, so the court has no grounds not to satisfy the claim," the party said.
By decree dated February 12 this year, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy imposed sanctions on Poroshenko. These include asset blocking: temporary deprivation of the right to use and dispose of assets belonging to an individual or legal entity, as well as assets with respect to which such a person may directly or indirectly (through other individuals or legal entities) perform actions identical in substance to exercising the right to dispose of them; and suspension of the fulfillment of economic and financial obligations.
Poroshenko appealed these sanctions to Ukraine's Supreme Court. At the first hearing on April 17, Ukraine's fifth president said the sanctions imposed on him were "preventive in nature." Poroshenko and his representatives insist the sanctions were imposed unlawfully.
