MFA confirms 2 Ukrainians killed, 16 injured in accident in Bulgaria

Two people were killed and 16 others injured in a road accident involving a tourist bus with Ukrainian registration traveling on the Odesa-Istanbul route, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reported.

"Consuls of the Embassy of Ukraine in Bulgaria report that an accident involving a tourist bus with Ukrainian registration on the Odesa-Istanbul route occurred near the Bulgarian-Turkish border in the morning. There were 39 Ukrainian citizens on the bus, including two drivers and one guide. According to preliminary data, the bus driver lost control, drove onto the shoulder, and overturned. As a result of the accident, two Ukrainian citizens died, and 16 others received injuries of varying severity," the Foreign Ministry said.

The ministry noted that the victims were provided with necessary medical assistance on-site; part of the group was hospitalized in local hospitals, while other passengers were provided with temporary accommodation.

An investigation into the circumstances of the accident is ongoing, and consuls are maintaining contact with law enforcement agencies.

It is currently known that on April 23, passengers will be provided with further transportation along the route by another bus.

The case is under the institution’s control.

As reported, two people died and at least 16 were injured in an accident in Bulgaria near the Malko Tarnovo border crossing after a Ukrainian bus unexpectedly rolled back and hit passengers standing behind it.
