eCherha system for passenger cars planned to be launched in June 2026
The launch of the eCherha electronic system for passenger cars is planned for June of this year; it will be available to Ukrainians and foreigners, announced Oleksiy Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction of Ukraine and Minister for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine.
According to his post on Telegram published on Monday, registration for border crossings by car will be available through the Diia app, the website, and the eCherha mobile app.
"Our goal is to make border crossing more predictable, convenient, and transparent for all users," Kuleba emphasized.
The Ministry for Communities and Territories Development's press release clarified that the service will initially be tested at selected border crossing points.
Among other updates, the introduction of automatic verification of Green Card insurance policies for all types of vehicles is planned.
The Ministry of Development clarified that a contract for the development of the new functionality has already been signed, and that the priority innovations planned for launch, in addition to the launch of an electronic queue for light vehicles, also include streamlining the priority system for trucks.
Among other things, the system will prioritize queues for certain categories of carriers and cargo. This will specifically apply to companies with AEO (Authorized Economic Operator) status or shipments with T1 customs declarations and TIR carnets.
For freight transport, the ability to specify T1 customs documents or TIR carnets when booking will be introduced. It is expected that their validity will be automatically verified through integration with the relevant systems.
The agency reported that the existing eCherha system for passenger carriers includes queue reservations for transit bus routes through Ukraine, the ability to re-register shuttle services using a single permit number, and a vehicle replacement mechanism for irregular services.
Among other innovations, the agency cited the single-use of documents for non-scheduled services, specifically Interbus log pages or transport permits, which will avoid document reuse within the system.
As reported, since the launch of the eCherha system in December 2022, 3 million border crossings have been recorded using online registration.
The system's heaviest load is recorded at the border with Poland – 1.6 million crossings, while with Romania – more than 527,000, Moldova – more than 351,000, Hungary – almost 267,000, and Slovakia – 162,000.
Today, the system operates at 29 checkpoints for trucks and 30 for buses.
