Russia to use Progressive Bulgaria victory to block aid to Ukraine – Holos deputy faction leader
Yulia Sirko, deputy head of the Holos faction, believes Russia will use the victory of Progressive Bulgaria in the parliamentary elections to block aid to Ukraine.
"The results are disappointing. In Bulgaria, we are seeing a reincarnation of Orban (Viktor Orban, Prime Minister of Hungary and leader of the Fidesz party, which was defeated in parliamentary elections on April 12 – IF-U), which Russia will actively use to block EU operations and aid to Ukraine," Sirko told Interfax-Ukraine on Monday.
According to the MP, the victory of Progressive Bulgaria in the National Assembly elections could complicate further military cooperation between Ukraine and Bulgaria.
At the same time, Sirko emphasized that the Ukrainian and Bulgarian parliaments must maintain a dialogue.
"The Verkhovna Rada must continue parliamentary diplomacy and cooperation with the Bulgarian parliament. We definitely must not give up," she noted.
As reported, former President Rumen Radev’s Progressive Bulgaria group is garnering 44.7% of the vote in the parliamentary elections based on 91.68% of the processed ballots.
Currently, the GERB-SDS party is in second place with 13.4%, followed by the We Continue the Change–Democratic Bulgaria coalition with 13.2% in third, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) with 6.2% in fourth, and the Revival party with 4.4% in fifth. Other political forces are each receiving less than 3.3%. The election threshold in the country is 4%.
Thus, Progressive Bulgaria is set to receive at least 130 seats in the 240-seat National Assembly (parliament).
