During 2026, UAH 296 million was returned to the state for defense needs; the largest portion of these funds, UAH 217.5 million, was received in April following a prolonged legal dispute with one of the leading fuel suppliers, Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko has said.

In a Telegram post on Monday, the Prosecutor General reported that during the procurement of fuel and lubricants for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in 2022-2023, the supplier unjustifiably included VAT in the price.

"This violated the requirements of current legislation. In effect, the state overpaid millions of hryvnias for fuel that should have remained in the budget and been used to secure the needs of the army," Kravchenko specified.

According to him, the Prosecutor General’s Office filed a series of lawsuits in commercial courts against suppliers in the interests of the state, represented by the Ministry of Defense, to recover the unjustifiably acquired funds.

"We defended our position in courts of all instances. The Supreme Court made the final ruling. In addition to the overpayment, fines and inflationary losses were recovered," the Prosecutor General emphasized.

He clarified that as of today, the decision has been fully implemented, and the funds are already in the accounts of the Ministry of Defense.

"In total, all UAH 296 million returned in 2026 will be directed toward strengthening the country’s defense capabilities," Kravchenko said.
