Part of wall collapses at Khotyn Fortress – Mayor

A partial collapse occurred on a large wall at the Khotyn Fortress on Friday, April 17, reported Khotyn Mayor Andriy Dranchuk.

"A partial collapse has occurred on the great wall. And this collapse is very significant. Everyone is alive! Most importantly, no one was injured. The team from the ‘Khotyn Fortress’ State Historical and Architectural Reserve (DIAZ) and SES workers responded promptly, restricting access for tourist groups near the emergency site," Dranchuk wrote on Facebook.

He added that the "Khotyn Fortress" DIAZ is documenting the incident and preparing the necessary commission documents. The Chernivtsi Regional Military Administration, the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, and the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine have been informed.

Khotyn Fortress, built between the 13th and 18th centuries, is a prominent historical and architectural monument in the Chernivtsi region (Khotyn) and is one of the "Seven Wonders of Ukraine." The structure on the banks of the Dniester is famous for its role in the Battle of Khotyn in 1621 and features high walls decorated with ornaments, as well as a territory housing a palace and a church.

As previously reported, earlier this week in the Rivne region, part of the Tarakaniv Fort collapsed, specifically involving the destruction of a section of the Central Barracks.
