Bolt introduces rating system for scooter drivers to encourage safe driving

Online taxi service Bolt has launched a new feature in its app that encourages users to be responsible while riding and parking their scooters by offering rewards for safe rides.

According to a company release posted on Wednesday, the rating reflects the level of responsibility during each scooter ride and is updated after each ride.

It is noted that the system will increase the score if the vehicle is driven carefully and parked correctly. However, sudden braking with skidding, a collision, or improper parking will decrease the score.

Users may receive free booking minutes for high scores after a ride, while consistently dangerous behavior will result in restrictions, including a reduction in maximum speed or temporary blocking of access to the service, the release states.

Bolt clarified that during testing, more than 90% of users responded that the feature encourages them to drive more safely, and almost six out of 10 said that bonuses influence their choice of service.

The company emphasized that the user rating is part of Bolt's broader commitment. Specifically, the system works in conjunction with other safety tools, including geofencing with speed limits and no-parking zones, in-app cognitive tests to prevent drunk driving, and built-in vehicle sensors to detect operational violations.

Bolt provides shared mobility services, including ride-hailing, electric scooter and e-bike rentals, car rentals, corporate travel, and food and grocery delivery through Bolt Food.

The company is present in more than 50 countries across Europe and Africa.
