Ukraine and Germany agree on new large-scale defense cooperation package worth EUR 4 bln – Defense Ministry
A new large-scale cooperation package between Ukraine and Germany worth EUR 4 billion provides for the purchase of missiles for Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems, as well as joint production of drones, Minister of Defense of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov reported.
"We have agreed on a package of defense agreements totaling EUR 4 billion – to strengthen air defense, develop long-range capabilities, and joint production of drones," Fedorov wrote on Telegram following negotiations with German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.
According to him, during the visit, Ukraine and Germany signed three important agreements: on strengthening air defense, on the development of long-range systems production, and on the development of drone production.
"Germany will finance a contract for several hundred missiles for Patriot – this will significantly strengthen the protection of Ukrainian cities and critical infrastructure. It also provides for the supply of 36 IRIS-T launchers, which will strengthen the multi-layered air defense system," Fedorov said.
The agreement on the development of "deep-strike" capabilities provides for EUR 300 million in investments in long-range capabilities, "which will allow for increasing the production of Ukrainian weapons," the minister reported.
"Within the Build with Ukraine initiative, we are launching joint production of mid-strike drones using AI. In the first stage – 5,000 drones for the Defense Forces," Fedorov said regarding the agreement on joint drone production.
