Zelenskyy says things will be very difficult for Ukraine until September
If Russia chooses the path of de-escalation, a trilateral meeting could take place in April, May or June, these will be key months for them, and things will be very difficult for Ukraine until September, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
"In my view, these people are clearly not ready to end the war. There is still a part of their society that will react badly to escalation. In my view, these are the two main scenarios, but of course there may be other motivations. And soon we will see which scenario Putin has chosen. If Russia chooses the path of de-escalation, I believe a trilateral meeting will take place. And they will try to hold it in April, May or June. I think these are key months for them. And I think things will be very difficult for us until September," he said at a meeting with journalists.
The president noted that from the start of summer the United States will be absorbed in its domestic elections, with "a kind of domestic political deadline - approximately August."
"That is, this spring-summer period will be quite difficult politically and diplomatically. There may be pressure on Ukraine. And on the battlefield too. But we understand what Ukraine’s national interests are and what can guarantee security," Zelenskyy stressed.
He said it is important that sufficient pressure also be applied to Russia during this period.
"For example, partners could this year hold an absolutely unprecedented, historic, landmark and, in a certain sense, victorious NATO summit. But that depends on them - on what they are genuinely ready for and whether they take seriously the threats that are directed not against any one country, but against all," the head of state concluded.
