Govt, local authorities implement 26 projects to protect water systems from attacks – Svyrydenko
At the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities held in Uzhgorod on Thursday, April 9, participants discussed progress in implementing regional resilience plans, Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko has said.
"We focused in particular on water supply and wastewater systems, which may also be targeted by attacks. The resilience plans provide for 26 projects in ten communities. The measures include looping networks, creating backup for critical nodes, installing and connecting reserve equipment, and other technical solutions to ensure stable water supply. The total cost of the measures is UAH 12.7 billion," Svyrydenko said.
She added that the government has already secured funding for the first works under the resilience plans – a total of UAH 22.1 billion to protect 576 priority critical facilities.
"The next step is implementation on the ground. We expect all regions to submit clear co-financing plans from local budgets: what resources the region will provide, what communities will provide, and where contracts can already be signed and work can begin. Everything that can be done now is being done now. People must get through next winter with electricity, heat and water even in the most difficult conditions," the prime minister said.
