Ukraine confirms readiness for Easter and energy ceasefire – MFA
Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Heorhiy Tykhyi has confirmed the readiness of the Ukrainian side for a so-called "Easter ceasefire," proposing a halt to fire and energy attacks.
As reported by an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent, the spokesperson made the statement at a briefing in Kyiv on Wednesday.
"We confirm Ukraine’s readiness for an Easter ceasefire. It remains in force. And for an energy ceasefire. If Russia stops strikes, then Ukraine is also ready to respond in kind," Tykhyi said.
According to him, the Middle East has demonstrated that such agreements can work, "even with regimes like the Iranian one," which had shown a lack of constructiveness for many years.
Earlier on Wednesday, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine is ready to respond in kind if Russia stops its strikes, as a ceasefire could create the right prerequisites for agreements.
"Ukraine has always called for a ceasefire in the war waged by Russia here in Europe against our state and people, and we support the silence in the Middle East and the Gulf, which opens the way for diplomatic work. Ukraine once again reiterates to Russia: we are ready to respond in kind if Russia stops its strikes. It is obvious to everyone that a ceasefire can create the right prerequisites for agreements," Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram on Wednesday.
