German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer have welcomed the agreement between the US and Iran to unblock the Strait of Hormuz and establish a ceasefire.

"I welcome the two-week ceasefire that the US and Iran agreed upon overnight. We express our gratitude to Pakistan for its mediation. Our task now must be to reach an agreement on a final end to the war. In this regard, we are in close contact with our partners," Merz wrote on X.

Starmer also emphasized the importance of continuing work to maintain peace.

"I welcome the ceasefire agreement reached last night, which will bring a moment of relief to the region and the entire world. Together with our partners, we must do everything possible to support and sustain this ceasefire, turn it into a long-term agreement, and reopen the Strait of Hormuz," he said on X.
