Russia strikes Donets-Zakharzhevsky estate, fire breaks out in architectural monument
Russian forces struck the Donets-Zakharzhevsky estate in Velykyi Burluk, Kupiansk district of Kharkiv region, which is an architectural monument, reported head of the district military administration Andriy Kanashevych.
"The 19th-century architectural monument, the Donets-Zakharzhevsky estate, completed around 1835, which survived the turbulent 20th century, two terrible world wars, and the Soviet era with its hatred of national memory, was destroyed on April 7, 2026, by the same horde invasion," Kanashevych wrote on Facebook.
According to the press service of the State Emergency Service in Kharkiv region, a large-scale fire broke out following a Russian UAV attack.
"The fire engulfed about 2,000 square meters of the two-story wooden building. Fortunately, there were no casualties this time. Despite the constant threat of repeated shelling, two operational units of the State Emergency Service, a medical team, and the community's rescue officer are working at the scene," the report says.
The Donets-Zakharzhevsky estate belonged to representatives of one of the branches of the Donets-Zakharzhevsky – Zadonsky Cossack elder family. It was built in the first quarter of the 19th century in the classicist style. Until recently, only the main house remained, as other buildings, estate elements, and the park had not survived. In 1980, the house was recognized as an architectural monument of local significance.
