Cabinet approves National Program for adaptation of Ukrainian legislation to EU law

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the National Program for the adaptation of Ukrainian legislation to European Union law (the EU acquis).

"The Program is one of the key elements of the EU accession process. It contains a full list of EU legal acts that have not yet been implemented in Ukrainian legislation and for which there are relevant recommendations from the European Commission. The Program creates the institutional and legal framework for the systematic implementation of reforms and the full alignment of Ukraine’s legislation with EU law," the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration said.

It is noted that the document was drafted on the basis of screening reports and benchmarks defined by the EU and is structured in line with the negotiating clusters and chapters.

In particular, an important component of the Program is the roadmaps on the rule of law, public administration reform and the functioning of democratic institutions, as well as the action plan on protecting the rights of persons belonging to Ukraine’s national minorities (communities).

"The approval of the National Program marks a transition to a new stage of negotiations on accession to the European Union and the further systematic implementation of the EU acquis. We now have a single, systemic plan for adapting legislation that covers all areas and clearly defines priorities, deadlines and tasks. This is a program for the successful completion of negotiations with the EU," the press service said, citing Deputy Prime Minister Taras Kachka.

The document contains 1,875 tasks providing for the implementation of more than 1,600 EU legal acts.
