Trump considers US exit from NATO
US President Donald Trump has stated that he is seriously considering the possibility of a US withdrawal from NATO after the alliance refused to join his war against Iran, he said in an interview with The Telegraph.
The US President called the alliance a "paper tiger" and stated that America’s exit from the defense treaty is now "beyond reconsideration."
"Oh yes, I would say it is beyond reconsideration. I was never swayed by NATO. I always knew they were a paper tiger, and by the way, Putin knows that too," Trump said in response to a question on whether he would reconsider US membership in NATO after the conflict.
He also emphasized that he "did not push too hard" and called the request for help from the Alliance allies a test.
"eyond not being there, it was actually hard to believe. And I didn’t do a big sale. I just said, ‘Hey’, you know, I didn’t insist too much. I just think it should be automatic. We’ve been there automatically, including Ukraine. Ukraine wasn’t our problem. It was a test, and we were there for them, and we would always have been there for them. They weren’t there for us," Trump stated.
Turning separately to Great Britain, the US President reproached Prime Minister Keir Starmer for refusing to join the US-Israeli war against Iran, hinting that the Royal Navy was not up to the task.
"You don’t even have a navy. You’re too old and had aircraft carriers that didn’t work," Trump said, referring to the state of the British naval fleet.
As reported, Trump is scheduled to deliver an "address to the nation" at 21:00 Eastern Standard Time on Wednesday (05:00 Kyiv time – IF-U) regarding the situation in Iran.
On Tuesday evening, he stated that the war could end within "two weeks, maybe three," noting that its sole purpose is to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
