Only 7% of Ukrainians do not use social networks, majority use Telegram – Socis poll
More than half of Ukrainians use the Telegram social network, according to the results of a sociological study by the Socis company conducted March 12-18.
When asked which social networks they use most often (multiple choices allowed), 58.2% chose Telegram, making it the only platform used by more than half of those surveyed.
YouTube usage was reported by 39.3% of respondents, Facebook by 33%, Viber by 28.7%, Instagram by 20.5%, and TikTok by 18.9%. Only 1.6% of respondents use Threads, and 1.3% use X (formerly Twitter). 0.5% of respondents named other social networks.
Only 6.9% of those surveyed do not use social networks at all.
Regarding the sources most often used to obtain information about socio-political events in Ukraine, 48.9% named channels in the Telegram and Viber messengers, 43.6% cited social networks (Facebook, Instagram, X), 32% mentioned YouTube videos, and 10.5% pointed to TikTok.
Only 23% receive news from national television, the same percentage as from relatives, friends, neighbors, colleagues, and acquaintances. 9.1% named local television.
Fourteen percent of respondents cited national online media, 7.5% local online media, and 4.5% Western online media.
News is received from national radio by 4.3% of respondents, and 2.6% from local radio. 2% get news from local print publications, and 1.5% from national ones.
Only 1.2% stated that they do not follow socio-political events in the country.
Regarding language, 55.7% of respondents indicated that they speak Ukrainian in most everyday situations, 12.8% speak Russian, and 31.4% use both.
A total of 1,204 respondents were interviewed for the study using a quota stratified sample across all government-controlled territories of Ukraine. The research method was face-to-face personal interviews using tablets (CAPI). The statistical margin of error (confidence interval) is ±2.5%.
