SBU and National Police detain perpetrator of Bucha terror attack "in hot pursuit"
Counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the National Police of Ukraine detained a 21-year-old local resident—an agent of Russia—who committed a double terror attack in Bucha, Kyiv region, on Monday, March 23, within several hours, the SBU reports.
In a report on its Telegram channel, the Ukrainian special service reminds that at 05:35, a report of an explosion on one of the streets of the district center was received via the 112 emergency line; after emergency services arrived at the scene, a second explosion occurred.
"SBU and National Police officers detained the perpetrator of the terror attack ‘in hot pursuit.’ He turned out to be a 21-year-old local resident. According to preliminary information, he was recruited by Russian special services via the Internet," the report emphasizes.
According to the Ukrainian special service, the figure received instructions from the enemy to manufacture two improvised explosive devices (IEDs). For remote activation, the agent equipped each of the bombs with a mobile phone.
"Furthermore, the figure planted the explosives at the site of the planned terror attack: he hid one IED under a bench near the entrance to a residential building’s stairwell, and the other near a trash container," the SBU specifies.
Within the framework of criminal proceedings initiated under Part 2 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (terrorist act), urgent investigative and operational measures are ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the crime and bring the perpetrators to justice. The investigation is being conducted under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
The Security Service of Ukraine once again calls on citizens to be vigilant. "If you are approached with dubious offers, if you see suspicious objects or persons, or if you receive information about the activities of Russian special services, Internet pages, or social media accounts they use for recruitment, report it to the SBU: ‘Burn the FSB agent’ chatbot – t.me/spaly_fsb_bot, tel.: 0 800 501 482, email: [email protected]," the SBU emphasizes.
"There is a high probability that the person who prepared and carried out the explosion was recruited through the game World of Tanks," a law enforcement source told Interfax-Ukraine.
