Patriarch Filaret dies

Patriarch Filaret of Kyiv and All Rus-Ukraine died on Friday, March 20, at the age of 98, Metropolitan Eustratiy Zorya of Bila Tserkva announced on Facebook.

"The Primate and the Kyiv Metropolitanate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine inform the all-Ukrainian flock with deep sorrow that on March 20, 2026, from the effects of exacerbation of chronic illnesses, at the age of 98, 77 years of monasticism, and 65 years of his episcopacy, the Honorary Patriarch of Kyiv and All Rus-Ukraine Filaret reposed in God," the message reads.
