385 children removed from dangerous living conditions during three months of inspections – PGO
During three months of inspections of living and upbringing conditions of children, hundreds of officials, parents, and guardians were brought to criminal responsibility, and 385 children were rescued from danger, Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko has said.
On Telegram channel on Thursday, he recalled that inspections of compliance with proper living and upbringing conditions for children in Ukraine began three months ago.
"We began to check what had remained overlooked for years. During this time, at initiative of prosecutor’s office, living and upbringing conditions of 52,000 children, 342 institutions, and over 1,900 families where minors are placed were checked," Kravchenko informed.
He emphasized that according to conclusions of monitoring groups, facts of ill-treatment of children were identified, and abuses of state funds allocated for their maintenance were uncovered.
"There are cases where irresponsibility of adults ends in tragedies. One of such terrible crimes recently occurred in Vinnytsia region. Due to alcoholism of parents and neglect of duties, two-month-old infant died, and these, unfortunately, are not isolated cases," he added.
Prosecutor General noted that overall, based on results of inspections, 392 criminal proceedings were opened: 131 against officials and 261 against parents and guardians.
"207 persons were already notified of suspicion. 99 indictments against 102 persons were sent to court. But most importantly – 385 children were removed from dangerous living conditions," Kravchenko emphasized.
According to him, some of these children receive medical assistance and undergo rehabilitation, while others were placed in family-based care facilities.
