AFU General Staff: Russian aircraft manufacturing plant Aviastar damaged
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported the destruction of the Aviastar aircraft manufacturing plant (Ulyanovsk region, Russia).
"On March 16, units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck the infrastructure of the Aviastar aircraft manufacturing plant near the city of Ulyanovsk (Ulyanovsk region, Russia)... According to preliminary information, the shelter and aircraft parking areas were damaged. Some aircraft on the plant’s premises sustained varying degrees of damage," the General Staff reported on its Telegram channel.
According to military officials, Aviastar is part of the United Aircraft Corporation (a Rostec subsidiary). It manufactures Il-76MD-90A military transport aircraft and Il-78M-90A tanker aircraft, and also services An-124 Ruslan heavy transport aircraft.
The extent of the damage is being determined.
