Ukraine proposes expanding cooperation with Romania, particularly in defense – Zelenskyy

During a meeting in Bucharest, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Romanian President Nicusor Dan discussed strengthening their economies, particularly energy and defense cooperation.

"We propose expanding cooperation between our countries to defend against all the threats the Russians could pose. All the threats that arise daily, and these are threats not only to Ukraine. In particular, we see the large-scale drone threat," Zelenskyy said at a press conference with the Romanian president on Thursday.

The Ukrainian head of state noted that a statement on defense cooperation was signed between the countries today.

He also recalled that Ukraine and Romania are working to expand cross-border energy cooperation.

"It's important that we are building two new electricity supply lines with Romania. Work is beginning, and this is something that can support our regions, particularly Chernivtsi region," Zelenskyy said.

He added that the corresponding document on the construction of interconnectors was signed today.

"It's important that we can jointly implement projects in the Black Sea offshore sector. Romania is already doing significant work in this area, and there's potential to expand it. Our team has relevant proposals," Zelenskyy emphasized.

The presidents also discussed projects in the oil and gas sector and the possibility of transporting American LNG to Ukraine via Romania.

"We are also working to open new border crossing points this summer. We have also created a special format for cooperation between ourselves and with Moldova – the Odesa Triangle. We expect to continue working within this format," he noted.
