State Emergency Service receives Ukrainian-made demining equipment, gear for female sappers from Japan

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES) has received another batch of equipment and machinery for humanitarian demining from the government of Japan, with the procurement carried out by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Ministry of Economy reported on its website on Tuesday.

According to the report, the assistance includes four pyrotechnic vehicles, 12 minibuses for transporting personnel, and 100 sets of protective equipment specially designed for female sappers. The machinery and equipment were either fully produced in Ukraine under the "Made in Ukraine" initiative or partially localized.

"This is important not only from the standpoint of humanitarian demining and supporting the capabilities of the State Emergency Service, but also for our economy. It is an order for our production, it creates jobs, it generates taxes, and our economy becomes stronger," said Deputy Minister of Economy Ihor Bezkaravainy.

He added that the procurement of equipment for female sappers became a practical result of the work of the Gender Aspects in Mine Action group, coordinated by the Ministry of Economy, the Embassy of Canada, and FSD.

The Ministry of Economy clarified that since the start of the full-scale invasion, Japan's contribution to humanitarian demining has exceeded $130 million. Most of these funds have been directed toward the purchase of specialized equipment and machinery.

The handover ceremony was attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine Masashi Nakagome, Deputy Interior Minister Bohdan Drapiaty, and Head of the State Emergency Service Andriy Danyk.
