Attacks cause power outages in 3 regions, consumption drops due to sunny weather – Ukrenergo

As of the morning of March 9, due to Russia’s attacks on energy infrastructure and hostilities in frontline regions, consumers in Kharkiv, Sumy, and Chernihiv regions are without power.

"Where security conditions permit, emergency recovery work is already underway," NPC Ukrenergo reported on Monday.

According to the system operator, on March 9, as a result of previous massive Russian attacks, power limit schedules for industry and hourly shutdown schedules for all categories of consumers are being applied in certain regions of Ukraine.

At the same time, electricity consumption in the Ukrainian energy system continues to show a downward trend. Specifically, as of 9:30 AM on March 9, the consumption level was 4.5% lower than at the same time on the previous working day, Friday.

"The reason for the change is clear weather across the entire territory of Ukraine, which ensures high efficiency of household solar power plants and a corresponding decrease in energy consumption from the general grid," Ukrenergo noted.

In turn, on March 8, due to a significant increase in air temperature in all regions of Ukraine, the daily peak consumption recorded in the evening was 8.9% lower than the maximum of the previous Sunday, March 1.

"Given the weather conditions, it is advisable to shift active energy consumption today to the period of the most efficient operation of solar power plants – from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM," Ukrenergo addressed consumers.
