Next trilateral meeting not postponed; it could take place on March 5-6, possibly not in Abu Dhabi – Zelenskyy
A previously scheduled trilateral meeting between the Ukrainian, American, and Russian sides regarding ending the war in Ukraine has not been postponed, despite the ongoing military operation in Iran, and may take place on March 5 or 6, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced, suggesting that the location will still be changed.
"Nobody postponed the next trilateral meeting with the Americans, even after the strike on Iran, so I believe it can take place on March 5 or 6, as planned," Zelenskyy said in an interview with Italy’s Corriere Della Sera, published on Tuesday, when asked whether negotiations with Russia had reached a dead end.
"It’s possible this [meeting] won’t take place in Abu Dhabi. I would prefer it to be in Geneva or any other European city, because the war is taking place on our continent. If Russia wants a neutral location, then Austria, the Vatican, or Turkey would be suitable. We hope that a new prisoner exchange will take place," the Ukrainian president added.
As reported, on February 26, following a meeting between the Ukrainian negotiating team led by Rustem Umerov and David Arakhamia and US President Donald Trump’s envoys, Stephen Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Zelenskyy announced increased readiness for the next trilateral meeting, likely to take place in Abu Dhabi, UAE, in early March. The most recent round of talks took place in Geneva, Switzerland, and the previous ones were held in Abu Dhabi.
On February 2, Zelenskyy clarified that the trilateral Ukraine-US-Russia meeting was tentatively scheduled for March 5-6 in Abu Dhabi. However, due to the ongoing fighting, the Ukrainian side cannot confirm that the meeting will take place there, although it has not been cancelled.
