Ukrainian and English versions of security guarantees document should specifically focus on guarantees – Kyslytsya

The document on security guarantees for Ukraine must be ratified by the US Congress, and both the Ukrainian and English versions of the document must specifically address these guarantees, said First Deputy Head of the President’s Office Serhiy Kyslytsya.

"We’re discussing a document, including with the United States that must be ratified by the US Congress. That is, one that specifically addresses the guarantee in both the Ukrainian and English versions," he said in an interview for the joint telethon, which is aired on Friday.

Kyslytsya, using the Budapest Memorandum as an example, explained that there were differences between the Ukrainian and English versions of the document due to translation. For example, the English title of the document refers to "assurance" rather than security guarantees.

"Further down the document, there’s no mention of a guarantee, not even of an assurance. It talks about commitments. Thus, the official Ukrainian text is called a guarantee—the Budapest Memorandum on Guarantee," added the First Deputy Head of the Office.
