Russian strikes cause forced reduction in Ukraine's nuclear generation capacity — Shmyhal

1 min read

Overnight Russian strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure caused emergency disconnections of several high-voltage lines, forcing a reduction in nuclear generation capacity, First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal said following an Energy Headquarters meeting.

"Unfortunately, as a result of the strikes today we had emergency disconnections of several high-voltage lines. To balance the system, we were forced to reduce nuclear generation capacity," the statement said Thursday.

In addition, National Power Company Ukrenergo imposed additional restriction schedules across the "deficit" part of the power system.

Shmyhal added that this week, under agreements reached during a ministerial meeting in Paris, Ukrainian specialists are visiting Slovakia, Austria and Croatia to assess the possibility of obtaining equipment from decommissioned thermal power plants. More than EUR 23 million in energy support fund contributions from partners are also expected soon.
