Center for psychosocial support of Ukrainian Red Cross opened in Uman

The Ukrainian Red Cross Society (URCS) Psychosocial Support Center has opened in Uman (Cherkasy region).

“Establishing this Psychosocial Support Centre has been a long journey — the result of considerable preparatory work, strong partnerships, and a firm belief that spaces like this are urgently needed today. We are starting in Uman, as this marks the first phase in developing a network of similar centres across the region. Here, we will refine our approaches, establish effective practices, gain valuable experience, and scale them up further,” said Yuliia Kholodna, Head of Cherkasy regional branch of the Ukrainian Red Cross.

According to her, today it is extremely important to systematically develop the direction of psychosocial support and to care about the mental health of Ukrainians living in war conditions.

The Centre provides a safe and welcoming space where adults and children can access high-quality psychosocial support. It will host activities aimed at promoting mental health, preventing psychological disorders, and supporting the well-being of individuals and families.

The programme includes both basic and targeted psychosocial support activities. The Building the Future Together programme is currently being implemented, and in 2026, staff will receive training in additional programmes. The Centre will also host training sessions, as well as formal and informal volunteer meetings.

The opening ceremony was attended by government representatives, members of the National Committee of the Ukrainian Red Cross, donors, and project partners.

The center was created with the support of the Canadian Red Cross.
